I think that most of the people who move to Washington from California came
from some other state. There are not many native Californians. I am not, though I've lived here in the Bay area for over thirty years and married a native Californian. If anything the weather here is BORING for a weather person ( I love stormy weather and have a meteorolgy degree) as there is little chance of a storm from May thu November. I know several friends who have moved to Washington State and the Seattle area for the reasons, 1) It's cheaper and your money goes further there 2) Less People 3) job opportunites. My sister lives on Whidbey Island and likes the area .. doesn't like the long winter .. loves the summer even if it is short. It's no wonder there are so many people from Michigan and Minnesota that live in California. So then... why do so many folks from California move up here to Seattle? We've had a range of about 20°F to 55°F this month, ~5 inches of rain, and 5 inches of snow on the 6th - followed by only the second ice storm I've seen in my 40 years here. Bob ^,,^ It seems to me that Seattle would be a miserable place to live during the winter. I would rather live someplace where there is some snowfall. Although I could live without the below zero weather. Warm climtates are for the elderly. Many folks here spend a lot of time complaining about the weather - most of them the CA transplants... I don't mind, though - I'm not one for warm and muggy weather. Our winters are just fine - maybe a little more snow would be nice, but only for looking at - Seattle drivers who normally can't even handle dry weather panic at the mere forcast of a dusting of snow... =) Bob ^,,^ |

Must be ~very~ expensive, crowded, and job-impaired down there... The Seattle area isn't exactly famous for any of the above these days. Beautiful area, though Whidbey did get a good blow the other day - almost blew a truck off the Deception Pass bridge - http://www.king5.com/localnews/stori....684121e7.html (May require registering at the site) Pretty quiet here from May to October, too - but we can get a good windstorm and the occasional snow now and then during the winter months. Or the 5+" of rain in 24 hours we had in the Metro area last November. Bob ^,,^ |

there... The Seattle area isn't exactly famous for any of the above these days. Because there are so many people who have moved there from California!. Yes it is still very expensive to live here (housing wise) and the job market hasn't really picked up here as many other places like Seattle area, Phoenix, Austin, Colorado Springs ... have built there own versions of Silicon valley. My sister who has lived up there for about 20 years now (She moved from New Mexico) has mentioned how much things have changed in the area ... of course why am I telling you ... you've live there for many many years too.
