Hannah Devlin and Robin Pagnamenta Sea levels will rise by twice as much as previously predicted as a result of global warming, an important international study has concluded. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) calculated that if temperatures continued to increase at the present rate, by 2100 the sea level would rise by up to 1.4 metres — twice that predicted two years ago. The hope is that the median of 900 centimeters will be the max for 90 years. California plans on 2 meters, and Bali plans on 5 meters as worse-case. Such a rise in sea levels would engulf island nations such as the Maldives in the Indian Ocean and Tuvalu in the Pacific, devastate coastal cities such as Calcutta and Dhaka and force London, New York and Shanghai to spend billions on flood defences. Even if the average global temperature increases by only 2C sea levels could still rise by 50cm, double previous forecasts, according to the report. That is an additional 50 cm, on top of the 16 cm already observed. Ø False — There has been no observed rise in sea levels How do you explain these then? http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/200...GL024826.shtml http://www.springerlink.com/content/p364381652174757/ http://sealevel.colorado.edu/ -- ICQ #17887309 * Save the net * Grok: http://spam.abuse.net http://www.cauce.org * nuke a spammer * Find: http://www.samspade.org http://www.netdemon.net * today * Kill: http://mail-abuse.com http://au.sorbs.net http://spamhaus.org |

Now everyone who was flooded out of their homes due to the rise in ocean level can all rush back home: they just imagined it. My Tongan friends (a methodist minister and his family), who lost their house to the rise in sea level, will sure be glad to hear it all didn't happen! And California can ignore the current flooding problem due to the observed 15.9 mm (year 2001) rise in the Pacific---- all of that water, and damaged coastal highway, is just in their collective imaginations. How do you explain these then? http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/200...GL024826.shtml http://www.springerlink.com/content/p364381652174757/ http://sealevel.colorado.edu/ Lies! So the sea has risen at Tonga Nui but nowhere else in the Pacific ?? Riiiight ! What is confusing you is that the islands suffer from erosion. Noothing to do with increases in sea levels that don't register elsewhere ! |

No. A short search by Google will show you that indeed the coral island suffer from erosion and generally after the storm season. That's nice. The topic is sea level rise. 101 Coral island Coral islands are built upon volcanoes that these selfsame storms have, over the eons, worn them down to sea level from where they are built up again by the coral polyps. With the detrius from Coconut palms and Mangroves and wave action the reef islands can reach to 10 or so feet above sea level. But so can king tides and wind powered waves. -- http://desertphile.org Desertphile's Desert Soliloquy. You mean it is an observed fact, for which many people are dealing with. Yes, and by rising sea levels. -- http://desertphile.org Desertphile's Desert Soliloquy. WARNING: view with plenty of water "Why aren't resurrections from the dead noteworthy?" -- Jim Rutz |

wrote: Yes, and by rising sea levels. When there is a rise in sea level the coral polyps will build the reef up to the new high water mark. Again If the sea level does go up the coral islands will grow to the new high water mark .. And from recent surveys the islands in the Pacific have been increasing in surface area. One of those natural events that has been happening since time started.. |
