Default Emergency Weather Warning on the BBC

In Edinburgh we have had a 5mb drop in pressure to 992mb over the last 40
minutes.
No wind but moderate rain.
When can I expect the real winds to strike ?

Regards
Brian

From obervations out the window in South Edinburgh I'd rate it closer
to heavy (pink on the meto radar). Sorry, no kit to measure
scientifically.

Its very odd with no wind, very quiet.

Remarkable calm!
But I notice the wind is returning now with Steve in Wanlockhead.
The wettest January day here since 1999, and today's maximum temp' less than
1บC off the site record.

Its ironic then that I've just received an Aurora alert! Hmm, chances
of seeing anything at the moment...

Up here in Shetland we know how it feels to be facing the onslaught of
a
January storm - we're just in the wrong place, but much of the

insecure
stuff around the croft gets blown away/down early in the winter. It's

easy
to see how depression can set in, or even anemophobia (if I've got

that one
right), when you're stuck in the seemingly endless cycle of zonal

weather,
with only brief lulls between gales.

However, tonight our thoughts / prayers are with all you guys in the
firing
line. My young nephew sailed out of Aberdeen harbour today on an elderly

standby boat. Sea area Viking is not the dream destination in the next
24
hours.

Take care everyone; property can repair - human life is a bit more
fragile!

Maurice

Sandwick, Shetland.
