Default Help, please!

Just returned from a wet and foggy week in south Devon and discovered that I
have more trouble accessing the NG. Since Wanadoo pulled the plug on NGs I
have been using
www.ureader.co.uk/gp/ but today I find no new items after 16 May. Has this
site also vanished and, if so, can anyone suggest another route to get the
NG. ]Thanks, in advance, for any offer of help!E mail address below as I
can't access the NG!

Incidentally, 34.0 mm of rain in the gauge this morning, which is the total
since 13 May.

Pete,

for NG access, why not try the 10 euro per year access from
News.individual.net

they filter out most of the spam too - which is great

FWIW I'll second that - they're a great outfit.

Only potential downside is that they only carry the text groups, no binaries,
but that doesn't concern me.

I used to use Wanadoo, now use Google Groups.

It's fine once you get used to the layout, and it's free.

As others have indicated, try news.individual.net at the Freie Universitaet
Berlin. Whilst it is text groups only, it is highly regarded by all who
use it and costs only 7 Euros a year ~£7.
You can sign up here.

Not if context isn't quoted.

If you hit 'Options', then 'Reply' you can quote the previous message.

I wish Google would make this the default way.

So do I. As my work internet access doesn't seem to allow news servers
I am forced to use Google at work, I have steadily got used to it but I
recommend using the "View as Tree" option so that you can get a proper
thread view.

Absolutely - they will probably never change this though as it costs them
storage space.... I reckon the only way to force them would be to add a 'k'
or two sig to each Google post!
