=== This forecast represents the *PERSONAL OPINION* of the Chief forecaster at the privately run Haytor meteorological office in Devon on how the weather may unfold next week. The Chief forecaster will take no responsibility whatsoever for any actions arising from its use. It is provided freely in the spirit of freedom and the great love for meteorology that we personally enjoy and wish to share freely with others. ================================================== ============================== === Summary valid for Sunday 29/10/06 to Saturday 04/11/06 TOI (time of issue) Friday 27/10/06 1900 UK local time This summary is based on a quick appraisal of the GFS, JMA, ECMWF, UKMO, FAX, and ENS (NCEP ensemble) labelled charts available from the superb http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten Confidence in this forecast is moderate to high. First widespread frost on Wednesday night. On Sunday and Monday England and Wales look like being generally cloudy with patchy rain in places, mainly in the west, some sunny intervals. Temperatures above normal. Scotland and Northern Ireland should be fine on Sunday, however, cloud, rain and strong to gale southwesterly winds will spread in from the west on Monday as a deep depression moves east to the north of Scotland from Iceland. On Tuesday, rain from this depression will spread to England and Wales, but light and patchy in the south. More gales and rain in Scotland and Northern Ireland. However, as the depression moves to the east of Shetland later on Tuesday the wind will swing into the north and it will become much colder with the rain turning showery. On Wednesday the colder air will push south into Scotland and Northern Ireland with sunny spells and showers in exposed coastal and hilly areas. The showers will turn wintry with time with possible blizzards in the Highlands. Showers will push south into eastern parts of England later in the day, however, many southern and western areas will turn dry with spells of sunshine but with a fresh north or northwest wind at times. A widespread frost setting in on Wednesday night as winds ease from the west. The frost may be moderate in places. On Thursday and Friday the weather is expected to become mainly dry as a ridge of high pressure extends down from the north. Still a few wintry showers in NE Britain, but sunshine by day and frost at night. Possibly some freezing fog which may persist all day in a few places. Day temperatures near normal but cold where fog lingers. Probably staying cold and mainly dry over the weekend with possibly some wintry showers in eastern areas. Frost and fog patches at night. Ah that's more like it! Thanks Will.

We're going to the Lake District on Friday, so hoping to see some snow on the tops, nice clean air and some great photo opportunities. Dave in Ferryhill, Co. Durham http://nediary.blogspot.com |
