... 0705 Overnight min +0.0 Current temperature +0.3 deg C. Just too much wind overnight (1-3 knots) for lower temperatures. Probably -2 or -3 deg C in the well known frosty spots in the South Hams or in the Teign Valley. Lovely sunrise again over Lyme Bay, though a tad more murky than yesterday. Will. -3°C on the Exeter and Bournemouth METARs earlier and -4°C at Yeovilton. Jon. |

Er, forgive me for the intrusion, but the last time I did this sort of thing 0.0 C was a frost. Water freezes at zero (given the right conditions). As others have said 0.0 is the melting point of ice not the freezing point of water. Water can exist in a supercooled state to very low temperatures. If 0.0 is not now recognised as a frost, then I demand that 20 years of Open Road verification figures be re-assessed in the forecasters favour. It's always been a frost at -0.1 not at 0.0 ! By the way, we definitely did have an air frost last night: -2.0C.

C last night in Dartington. Climbed to the dizzy height of +9.7 C during the day. Currently (21:40) down to +0.4C - almost identical to the same temperature this time yesterday evening. What a beautiful day it was today! All the best, Richard. |

As the road surface temperature can be several degrees different from the air temperature and forecasts of air and road surface temperature cannot be made to an accuracy of one tenth of a degree, bringing 'Open Road verification' into this debate seems a bit pointless. Ah but it does help to grind an axe :-) Will. -- |
