In the satpic above it is not over Holland, but over the "Westhoek" - the part of the Belgian coastal area next to the French border. Colin Youngs Brussels |

The poster on the Belgian group implied that he had seen it move from France to be over SW Belgium at the time he was writing. Do you know the time the Rapidfire picture was taken, Wijke ? I would guess late morning. Brussels still has just high cloud and contrails. The thicker cloud moving in from the west appeared here just after midday. Colin Youngs Brussels |

Problem is: the Flemish weathergroup didn't solve this mystery either. So any suggestions are very welcome. Wijke |

![]() It's right on the France/Belgium border. Somewhere between the towns of Wormhout in France and Poperinge in Belgium. Is it a small low? Maybe with big temperature diffrence since it's wintry cold on the continent and morning and at the same time the North Sea much warmer. I see there are also a line of hills (with lookout points) just south of it, rougly parallel to the cost. Could they block the air coming up from the south, and decrease the pressure? Wijke Only a guess Wijke - possibly a weakly developed Von Karman vortex downwind of the French Massif Central. Note on the Modis image there appears to be another similar pattern developing in the cloud to the south south west. No evidence of vorticity at the surface on these hourly plots: http://meteocentre.com/analyse/map.p...=en&map=France Karl, Orkney, Scotland |
