Decent gale in Exeter earlier this morning with a gust of 53KT.
Looking increasingly interesting for late Monday with a polar low or similar likely to affect the SW http://www.weather.org.uk/charts/UKCpf072.gif Jon (tropical east Devon) |

It was howling a hooley here last night. The wind was gusting between 45 and
50 mph from 01:30 to 4:00 with mean wind speeds of between 25 and 30 mph . For this reasonably sheltered location, that's quite windy and the windiest it has been since I moved here in May 2006. What a mess this morning in the garden; table and chairs blown over, along with pots, bits of tree on the lawn and the usual recycling box and bins all over the place. Currently (09:00), 8.6C, RH 73%, DP 4.1C, 1014.2 hPa (R), Wind 17 mph NW. ________________ Nick G Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Looking increasingly interesting for late Monday with a polar low or similar likely to affect the SW http://www.weather.org.uk/charts/UKCpf072.gif COME ON :-) Here was my local Dartmoor forecast for Monday and Tuesday issued yesterday. " On Monday winds will become fresh to strong northwesterly and it will turn cold with temperatures falling during the day to 2-4C by the afternoon. Scattered wintry showers in the morning, but showers turning heavy and prolonged in the afternoon and evening and turning quickly to sleet and snow. Covering of snow above 250m asl by midnight. Snow showers on Tuesday morning with a moderate or fresh north to northwesterly winds and a snow cover persisting above 250m asl with temperatures -1C to freezing. However, during the afternoon the winds will ease and there will be sunny periods allowing temperatures to rise to 3-5C depending on altitude with some thawing of snow. Temperatures plummeting rapidly after dusk with a severe frost by dawn Wednesday morning with temperatures -2C to -5C. " Will -- |

Hi Nick,
It was indeed a windy one. Had to close the bedroom window for the first time in weeks due to the noise. One gust even rattled the door in the stove in the living room which I have never had before, must have resonated correctly over the chimney top. My 3m high and sheltered anemometer recorded a gust of 40 mph. Judging by how the trees were swaying and doing a calculation to 10m, it was force 6 at my house which is very sheltered from the west by a slope(thank goodness!!!). Usual dead branches littered around but that's normal. It's no problem tidying up, took 10 minutes tops. Problems arise when you get structural damage to the house when the wind is really strong. It'll happen one day! :-( Nice sunny and breezy morning now, temp +9.2C at 1010 and the sun feels very warm, off to get to grips with and tame a laurel hedge. Then I'll check my sledge is OK for Tuesday grin . Will -- "Nick Gardner" wrote in message ... It was howling a hooley here last night. Looking increasingly interesting for late Monday with a polar low or similar likely to affect the SW http://www.weather.org.uk/charts/UKCpf072.gif I think we had the strongest gusts of the winter here in my part of Surrey last night. Somehow the black plastic recycling box in which we put our cans was blown from outside the back door into our front garden, which involved it in doing half a circumnavigation of the house. It must have initially been blown towards the NE, then to the S or SE, and finally to the W or SW. -- John Hall "If a man will begin with certainties, he shall end in doubts; but if he will be content to begin with doubts, he shall end in certainties."
