I'm not liking the look of the GFS output for the past few days, showing the
southerly-tracking jet waking up by about this time next week. Has a disturbing stench of 2007 about it :-( http://cirrus.netweather.tv/gfsimage...192/hgt300.png Hope to god that doesnt verify... Jim, Bournemouth |

I hope it doesn't verify too, but it backs up what I said this morning about the possible "return of the Atlantic" and the establishment of zonal conditions. The 06z brings some very warm air very close to the UK, next weekend, though it still suggests zonal at T240. After the end of May/start of June, however, when the jet was tracking much forther South than it is now, allowing that long period of Easterlies and with heavy rain for Southern England, as lows pushed up from the South and slowly crept Westwards, your thread title should perhaps be.....Northward-tracking jet to awaken"! *)) Paul |

Jim, Bournemouth Yeah good graphic there of its central position over UK. If it starts to stay there for the next 3 months summers definitely fcuk'd and I can claim a forecast victory! not that i want it to be this way. Still at least the Haytor Hound of the Moor will be gagged -lol -- Dave R. [west London] |

[west London] No, if it stays there for 3 months, summer would not be great. If it starts to stay there - what does that actually mean? If it stays there for 3 months, you'd have had no more than a lucky guess. Remember you haven't made a forecast, Dave, you've guessed what the summer might be like using seaweed. Even if you had made a forecast, it would be little better than guessing using seaweed anyway, so like Will's said, get over it. Personally I hope your little, personal, raincloud stays with you the whole summer and everyone else gets exactly the weather they'd like. Then we wouldn't have to put up with your daily whinge!! *)) Paul |

LOL, zonal to the edge of reality T+240.
That must mean summer is on its way. I wouldn't worry about it too much, I think of plenty of fantastic summers
which started a bit on the dodgy side. The summer of 1990 springs to mind as a very good example where the jet stream was far south and low pressure after low pressure dominated the weather until the first week of July then it was like a switch and suddenly out came the sun and the warmth. The rest of the summer was a scorcher. I believe the summer of 1976 didn't really get going until mid-June? And the best summer I have ever known (was a bit young to remember 1976 properly) was quite unsettled until the 3rd week of June, that was 1995, which I regard as the last really settled summer we've had. ________________ Nick.
