According to David Braine this August has probably been the dullest on
record in the South West. He quoted Tavistock as recording only 70 hours of sunshine. Blimey, that is low, especially as I managed to record 120 hours but I suppose Tavistock is on the other side of the moor (the wetter, cloudier side). I see that Camborne recorded 88 hours. Any other figures for the SW which does seem to have been the dullest place in the UK (apart from Orkney) this August? ________________ Nick. I posted several days ago giving a list of sunshine figures for the West Country for that abysmal month. pe |

Here it is: QUOTE Nick, August 1912 will take some beating. Sunshine totals for the whole month in SW England (all CS recorders, of course) include: 65h Cullompton 72h Woolacombe 77h Ilfracombe 79h Weston-s-Mare 84h Plymouth 85h Rousdon 85h Fowey 90h Newquay 94h Paignton 94h Teignmouth 96h Torquay 99h Penzance (In an unsettled summer month, electronic recorders will manage 20-35% less than the CS recorder) UNQUOTE pe |

(Someone should have told H H Lamb) . Mind you, the 'records began' date does seem to be a variable. Graham Penzance |
