I was dozing on a lounger in the garden and was awoken by large drops of rain falling on me. These only lasted a few minutes and they weren't enough to wet the ground. Peter Clarke Ewell, Epsom 55m |

I was on the London train from Norwich and, from around Stowmarket, I could see to what I gauged was the SE, in the far distance, a large anvil cloud. By the time we got to Colchester it was on the horizon and definitely to my SE. It's not the one that affected you, however, from the radar records it must have been from one of those in inland France/Belgium. Quite a distance, but not that surprising: I have seen similar over the Wash from here near Brentwood. - Tom Blackmore, SW Essex. |

Whether to forecast CB was agonised over a great length last night due to marginal forecast profiles that needed several factors to come into play, i.e. fairly high temperatures and some additional upper forcing moving west from the near continent. Some localised convergence may have also assisted things. In the end the decision was to go with some isolated CB in the far south as can be seen on the 215 forecast chart issued at 0930Z http://www.metbrief.com/Images/215chart.gif but the probability of any at any one site was considered very low. Would be useful to know if any CB were observed across Scotland too. Jon. |
