Default What it's like to be at the centre of a deep low

Not something we experience much here (Southampton), yet this thing
was right on top of us at 2200 apparently. Has to be said that
compared to yesterday evening, or daylight hours today, the weather
was extremely quiet - dry and cloudy, with some drizzle setting in
now. Not sure if this is typical "centre of a low" weather - but it's
almost like the eye of a hurricane! Wonder if the showers will kick in
again now we're on its rear side...

983mb and rising slowly, currently 985mb at 24.00

Well here it was a thouroughly miserable day with precious few dry
interludes. One bright lightning flash and thunderclap late afternoon.
Rainfall (00-00) 19mm in Fareham. Pressure bottomed out at 981.

Now on the back edge, continuous moderate rain at 3 am.

With 193.7 mm of rain so far this month, I am hopeful of getting my
first ever "200 up" by midnight. I feel nearly as excited at the
prospect as Will when he hit 400 the other day, lol.

Here in Yate (South Glos) i have 223mm for the month so far. My old record
wettest month (recording rain since 1988 at this location) was also a
November, 1992 at 181mm.
Im well excited with this record much to the bewilderment of my friends and
family :-)

Ignore them; they are missing out on one of the Great Truths of
the natural world. :-)

I have also got the 200-up for only the second time in 26 years'
recording, the total being 204.5 mm so far. This is only exceeded by
the notorious October 2000 which gave me 212.7 mm.

Woaaaaaah that was close! I recorded 7.1mm of rain today (all before
18H) making the total for the month 200.8mm. ***Yay!!!***

I've only been recording rainfall totals consistently for a 3 years
now and that's 50% above my previous highest. Nearby, I had a look at
the IoW Weather archives (Newport) and the only month since they
started in 2003 to exceed 200mm was October 2005, so that may well be
the case here too. Sadly, I can't be sure.

I've only got a non-standard tipping bucket guage, so the fact that it, too,
has recorded over 200mm in November is not of itself greatly significant.

What is more impressive is that this November has registered the same total
as July, August, September and October combined. In fact, the total for
November at this "station" is greater than that of the *two* previous
wettest months this year combined.

The same is true here. It must be the explanation of why the
heavy rain this month, particularly the 29th-30th, has not produced
the instant heavy runoff one sees after a prolonged wet spell. My
lawn, if you can call it that, is still quite firm underfoot after the
2nd wettest month I have recorded in 26 years.
