... (1450Z) currently, slight rain, set in about 30 mins ago from
LYR cloud: all surfaces wet, last of the persistent hoar frost gone.
OAT +2.2°C, dew point +1.8°C; visibility reduced to ~7 km.

.... (1550Z): rain ceased about 30 mins ago, always light - no sign of
'wintry' element here. OAT currently +1.4°C (falling), with dew point
+0.8° (more definite drop).
The radar shows the initial band of PPN now away to our east, and
we're going to need some proper development soon if we're going to see
anything more than residual sleet/snow here - and we might be waiting
some time for that.

Martin.

Yes quite- with the horizon brightening up to my north west - it is
difficult to 'believe' the warning.

At least it is nowhere near as cold as yesterday. It will be HIGHLY
amusing if there is zilch

I'm reliably informed it's currnetly snowing near Bournemouth University

... interesting: as you know, I can *see* the a/c taking off/arriving from
here ... all we've had is rain (now stopped) and the temperature/dew point
structure wouldn't support anything other than rain!

Doesn't RESN imply recent moderate snow (or at least a change from RASN
to -RASN) though, Martin ? i.e prior to 1520Z when they were reporting
01/00.

This low is obviously dragging in some milder air off the Channel.

As I've suspected all along... certainly for where I live.

I think it's pot luck if we'll get rain sleet or snow here... probably
all of them at some point in the next 24 hours but any snow
accumulation down here will I think be low and slushy (from past
experience and Martin's reports)

We shall see.

Probably worth noting that here at an altitude of 300 metres the
precipitation
during the past 24 hours has all fallen with the temperature around -1.
That
equates to a sea level temperature of about +2. I guess that precipitation
at
low levels witll be right on the snow/rain divide.

Further south Norman at 310m asl my snow fell with a temperature around
+0.5C, so add a bit more for the south coast. Now below freezing again
though.

.... (1750Z): a little light rain past hour, but essentially a dampish,
rather dreary and chill evening now with high cloud base and near-calm
conditions. OAT currently +0.8°C, with dew point now sub-zero,
at -0.4°C.

Rain total from above 1.5 mm. All surfaces damp.

No more reports unless something exciting happens :-(

.... indeed: I wasn't implying that they were wrong, just that the
conditions over a 'tuppeny bus ride' away were remarkably different.
In that time-frame, we only had rain, and the temperature remained
around 2 to 2.5; quite remarkable :-)
