The final remnant of the snowbed beside the B4541
opposite the National Trust Visitor Centre on Dunstable Downs vanished (at least from my sight, driving past it) yesterday ... 41 days after the first snow accumulated there. Philip |

Philip Hard to believe. Was this a pure, virginal, untouched by human hand type snowbed Philip? Or had it been pushed into a pile by some spoil sport? Len in snow starved Wembury |

There are still strips of snow on the North Downs of Kent above Lenham (between Ashford and Maidstone). Clearly visible from the train. It was quite heavy here, before and after xmas. I almost didn't make it home one night (train very nearly got snowed in). |

Len in snow starved Wembury Still lots of natural snow drifts around here, mostly along the dry stone walls. One of the lanes just outside the village is still blocked by drifts. This is day 43 with at least snow patches in the immediate vicinity. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. |

Yes, indeed, though courtesy of a man-made ditch. Those who know Dunstable Downs will attest to their windswept, treeless character. Although this year's cold weather has not, generally speaking, been accompanied by strong winds, the wind was strong enough on a couple of days (around Jan 10) to blow it from the fields and across the main road, filling the ditch on the windward side. I guess the ditch is about two feet deep. Philip |

Over 2' has gone from the drifts now so they are only about 2' deep now. One of the lanes just outside the village is still blocked by drifts. All the public roads are open now, though some of the high ones were ice bound late last week. Ones that only the farmers use to get to their stock, not that there is much (any) stock left up there now they brought them all down weeks ago. This is day 43 with at least snow patches in the immediate vicinity. 46 here, first snow fell on the 14th Dec. -- Cheers Dave. Nr Garrigill, Cumbria. 421m ASL. |

I recall many a trudge up to the top via the golf course amongst the deep drifts! |
