I'm surprised that the warnings on the Met Office site are still
only on orange rather than red. Perhaps this will change later
this morning.
They were talking about 50cm snow, with drifiting, by the
time all this is over. I know this is The Highlands but that
must rank as extreme weather, even by their standards.

It has snowed all night

Local radio reporting many drivers stuck over night at Macduff and on
A96 at Huntly

What does it have to do for a red warning ??

Still orange. I expect red is reserved for the flatlands.

There's about 10 cm of wet snow on the drive which I cleared
yesterday evening. I'm not surprised to see that Traffic
Scotland reports A96 closed between Huntly and Inverurie, but
the webcams at Foudland are not showing as much snow as I would
have expected to see. The A9 is closed southbound but not,
apparently, northbound. The site is at dead slow and stop, just
like the traffic - probably too many people trying to access it.

I am just glad that I don't have to go anywhere, except maybe a
short walk to the garden centre to see if they have any
aluminium snow shovels left as my plastic one can't cope and has
disintegrated.

We have no warnings at all, despite currently having our worst weather
of the winter - F7 wind and heavy snow, visibility very poor.

Are the synops correct that Lerwick has 21cm of snow on the ground?

Doesn't look quite that bad: http://www.shetland.org/60NTV/index.html

But some roads up there are closed, apparently, and police advice is not
to travel.
