When I queried the difference in the CET for September between the sites that Philip looks after and the Met Office, Philip very kindly sent me a personal email. Top bloke, it would be great if he contributed on here once again as I miss his valued input regarding past weather events. I agree entirely, it would be nice indeed if Philip were to return, if only on an occasional basis, perhaps at times when the irritating noise level (which I ignore completely) is low. I enjoyed listening to his piece for BBC Radio 2. -- Dave Fareham |

He was always very tolerant of "the noise" but there was and is a time when some things are/were unacceptable and I don't just mean from the obvious candidates. Dave |

Does AGW count as politics, BTW? -- Paul Hyett, Cheltenham (change 'invalid83261' to 'blueyonder' to email me) When Oz had its cold snap last winter I emailed Phillip asking him to recycle a memorable piece he wrote for the Sunday Telegraph 20 years or so ago about Sydney's coldest ever day (1859, I think. The max. temp. was 4C! ). He replied straightaway saying, rather sheepishly, that he hadn't kept it. He must get scores of emails a day, and it's the mark of a true gent. to reply to all of them. Patrick Moore is just the same. It's easy to understand why he doesn't want to get into online arguments with rabble-rousers, but I really miss his contributions. |
