No - just look in the mirror for one of the reasons.

So do I. I have always hoped he would have second thoughts and start
posting again.

It was Philip Eden that invited me to join this news group about 5

I also know for a fact the Philip still views this group even if he no
longer contributes. When I queried the difference in the CET for
September between the sites that Philip looks after and the Met
Office, Philip very kindly sent me a personal email.

Top bloke, it would be great if he contributed on here once again as I
miss his valued input regarding past weather events.

I agree entirely, it would be nice indeed if Philip were to return, if
only on an occasional basis, perhaps at times when the irritating
noise level (which I ignore completely) is low.

I enjoyed listening to his piece for BBC Radio 2.

All of the sensible people miss him but also understand why. He was
always very tolerant of "the noise" but there was and is a time when
some things are/were unacceptable and I don't just mean from the
obvious candidates.

Does AGW count as politics, BTW?

When Oz had its cold snap last winter I emailed Phillip asking him to
recycle a memorable piece he wrote for the Sunday Telegraph 20 years
or so ago about Sydney's coldest ever day (1859, I think. The max.
temp. was 4C! ). He replied straightaway saying, rather sheepishly,
that he hadn't kept it. He must get scores of emails a day, and it's
the mark of a true gent. to reply to all of them. Patrick Moore is
just the same. It's easy to understand why he doesn't want to get into
online arguments with rabble-rousers, but I really miss his
contributions.
