When Oz had its cold snap last winter I emailed Phillip asking him to
recycle a memorable piece he wrote for the Sunday Telegraph 20 years
or so ago about Sydney's coldest ever day (1859, I think.The max.
temp. was 4C! ). He replied straightaway saying, rather sheepishly,
that he hadn't kept it. He must get scores of emails a day, and it's
the mark of a true gent. to reply to all of them. Patrick Moore is
just the same. It's easy to understand why he doesn't want to get into
online arguments with rabble-rousers, but I really miss his
contributions.

I do miss his weather reports from Whipsnade which is quite close to my
home as it is an interesting comparison. I can visit his website of course
to find out what is going on there.

I think that it all depends on how it's discussed. It needs to be
discussed scientifically, rather than politically or as a religious
doctrine.
