Default [OBS] Romsey - Thursday 27th January 2011

An overcast, raw morning (some might say bitter!) First
snow grains were spotted at 0920Z but insufficient to alter
the visibility by much (20km now as opposed to 30km an
hour ago).

.... kept wondering if we were going to get something over here in east
Dorset, as the cloud cover this morning looked to have some substance to
it. However, nothing seen, and the Sc has been thinning/lifting well
over the past hour so I suspect we've escaped for the time being.

Perhaps you might receive our latest wintry offering. A rogue
lump of Cu has just passed over and shed a shower of small
polystyrene balls (1555-1610Z), enough for the wind to 'snake'
them along the road. They melted within 30 seconds of impact.

So we've had hail type 2 (snow grains) and hail type 3 (shower
of snow pellets). Snowflakes remain elusive.

[Friday morning/0805Z]
.... still waiting! Cloud looks to have more of Cu-form look to it this
morning, so there's a possibility of a few flakes / pellets of
something I suppose - whether there's enough depth I'm not sure.
