Anybody on here uploading their obs to the Met Office WOW site yet? Haytor is up there.http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/ Yes I have one of the Ely sites (5691150) uploading automatically via Weatherlink on 10min updates. Add-on is slightly buggy as yet so occasional uploads missed, but probably time-outs on the DNS look-up just need to be tweaked or worked around. Hopefully I'll have another nearby one online at WOW automatically via a WeatherlinkIP logger over the weekend. John Dann www.weatherstations.co.uk |

Hi, again, Up and running, Copley and Copley Lead Mill. Just manual atm until I can work out the AWS linking! There is a link on the website, though. Ken |

![]() "Ken Cook" wrote in message ... Just manual atm until I can work out the AWS linking! There are potentially two ways of doing an upload from the Weatherlink software (in addition to entering observations manually that is). One is to perform an upload of a WL archive file - you have to perform this upload manually, but it obviously is a way of uploading a batch of records in one go. If you're content to do this manually say once or twice a day then in this sense WL is already compatible with WOW. But if you want to upload 'current conditions' data frequently and automatically, say hourly or every 10 mins then WL doesn't provide this facility directly and as Will correctly says instead you need to use an add-on. I've got a prototype (a native Windows application) here that does just this but it needs to be tested further and made a bit more flexible as yet. John Dann www.weatherstations.co.uk |

Ah well the aim of the site was to provide the amateur observing community with a means of having their obs displayed on a map and at the same time giving the Met Office some information. I know Graham Easterling was interested in WOW at one stage? ----------------------------------------------------------- Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) ----------------------------------------------------------- I'll look at it after my holiday out here http://www.tregarthens-hotel.co.uk/webcam-harbour.php .. In the meantime, if anybody wants to know Penzance weather, check out XCweather for the Heliport, or for Scilly http://www.weatherlink.com/user/tape...main&headers=1 is more typical than the hill top airport. I know Graham Easterling was interested in WOW at one stage? ----------------------------------------------------------- Will (Haytor, Devon, 1017 feet asl) ----------------------------------------------------------- I would be bothered but my software (Weather Station Data Logger) doesn't seem to have the facility for WOW and, if I have to choose between my software and WOW, I'll choose the software. After all, my site is already on the internet. -- Howard Neil Hi Howard, if you are using Weatherlink, see my reply to Nick. My site (as you know) is on the Net too (and will be expanded vastly next year) but it is great to see ones obs mapped and there are graphing facilities on WOW to compare against neighbouring sites which is interesting in itself. At one stage I was concerned that putting data onto WOW would divert traffic from my site, but it hasn't happened and you can advertise your site on WOW anyway! Before anybody asks I'm not getting paid for promoting WOW but I was on the development/testing team along with one or two others on here. Interfacing with Davis/Weatherlink is an acknowledged weakness which is being worked on but there are workarounds. Cheers, Will -- Recent versions of Cumulus also supports WOW uploads. Haytor is up there. http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/ I can only assume that there are no quality control checks going on here because those readings are all over the place. My nearest station is recording 26C whilst I'm at around 20C. It's even worse in London where somebody is recording 34C but not so many miles away it's only 17C. Don't these people check their readings against local 'official' stations before uploading to make sure they are at least reasonably representative of their local area? Really, I'd be embarassed to send in data like that. As it stands, this site is a joke. -- Col Bolton, Lancashire 160m asl |

There is meta data describing the quality of the sites along the same lines as COL classification. However, the site with 32C has the same classification as my site, 2 stars, which is not right as mine is well exposed and accurate! I suspect the high temperature values are those with thermos exposed to the sun with no shielding. in which case I question why they are not 1 star stations? Will -- |

Isn't this bound to happen though if you rely only on self-certification as to exposure for QC? (Not that the categorisation has been very well thought through, I'd suggest, for amateur stations - it's over-rigorous in certain respects, while not mentioning other important limitations.) What's needed is proper (but automatic of course) QC of the values submitted, much in the way that CWOP does for the US - this should be the basis of the star rating. I did make this suggestion to the 'consultants' during the planning phase for WOW, but it obviously hasn't made it into the current beta. Maybe (hopefully) it will follow in due course. John Dann www.weatherstations.co.uk I've been using Weather Display for a number of years now. This can be organised to send data to a website as often as you like. It uploads a "Current" page for me every 15 minutes throughout the 24hrs. I would expect this to be usable for sending data to WOW, possibly with some fiddling to get the data into the right form.
