Worth a look, this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0175m9n This topical programme taps into the nation's obsession with the weather and asks whether we are heading for another 'snowmageddon' as experienced in the previous two years. Can forecasters give us warning this time around? How does the 'olde' weather lore compare with the supercomputers? And what are we doing across Britain to prepare ourselves as we head into winter? 'Will It Snow?' predicts what another extreme cold snap would spell for Britain's economy as it puts the science of weather forecasting to the test and asks the experts what we are in store for between now and spring. Repeated 7th at 11.20pm -- Regards, Paul |

Can we look back at the snowy periods of the last two winters and see clues in the data before those events that we can *now* say were early signs of what was to come, but which weren't recognised as such with any confidence (or at all) at the time? Or to put it another way: What was the earliest indication that these events were in the pipeline? |

Programme makers warn about flash photography but not when a production is made as if viewed through the eyes of a drunk to somehow make it more edgy and attention grabbing. |

Repeated 7th at 11.20pm -- Regards, Paul- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - As with all such documentaries these days, the only way to reduce the irritation factor is to watch them with the sound off, subtitles on, and occasional glances at the screen. Even the delightful Kate Humble cannot make up for lowest common denominator stuff like this. 50+ years ago I came home from saturday morning school (yes-every saturday!) to find Prof. Hermann Bondi lecturing to a somewhat bemused studio audience on how Einstein derived the theory of relativity from the Lorentz-Fitzgerald contraction-complete with equations of course. That was the way to learn something from TV!! |

I saw the whole thing and agree with you. In the introduction, I got a bit worried when they said they were going to include folklore but that was handled fairly well. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks.
