Default Where's there a Will....

Since Will has stopped issuing his dire weather warnings the weather has
definitely turned milder. Not only has it been the longest'suckers gap' in
history, but Dawlish is now looking for High pressure to establish itself
over southern Britain, which will probably result in the 'warmest Spring in
history'.
This has all got to stop ! ,so come on Will ,examine your runes again, get
out your prayer mat ,and start chopping those logs again.

There's a small chance some people in Northern Britain might want a prayer
mat next Tuesday...

Very true, though it is 14.2C down here in deepest darkest Dawlish in
Devon. No wind. Sunshine. Top down on the car going to and from the
gym and no heat needed off the faster roads!

Winter? You've got to be kidding me! This is glorious weather!

I'm afraid Will scuppered any hopes of snow for me this winter when he
announced he had bought a new sledge. It seems that not only do those
professional meteorologists not see the dangers from global warming,
they are also unaware of Sod's Law :-(

Cheers, Alastair.

I have been away Ron!
LOL

Funnily enough I fancy the weather will change by mid-month (January). There
is a minor stratospheric warming event underway, not yet in evidence below
30 hPa though, so we will have to see how that progresses, if it continues
it will slow down the westerlies. There are also some similarities to winter
1946/47. Also the fantasy charts (T+192 onward) from GFS and ensembles show
a downward trend in temperatures and potential cold scenarios. There is a
lot of winter left and I fully expect to make good use of my new sledge. No
need for prayer mats yet LOL.

Ciao,

Eskimo Will

Look Will; the link between SSWs and surface conditions is nothing
like as strong as you'd like people to believe. ..........*will* slow
down the westerlies is just not the correct language to use, if you
believe the work of your colleagues. *may*, I would accept. I thought
you might have learned from last winter - I posted enough research!
I've been watching this too and there is a very minor event under way,
but as to the possible effects, if any, on surface conditions and
where they might occur, would be speculation. As for a mention of some
similarities to 1946/7 (shakes head at the extraordinary level of hope!

I enjoy this very mild weather but I just need a couple of quiet days
to get a pent shed up in the garden: the various sections on the lawn
have been there for a month. Having moved 76metres up the road I am
far more exposed at the back of the house

So true. I renewed to a top of the range plastic one for my girls
(naturally ;-) in about 1995 and got to use it with my grandsons 15
years later!!

I agree that mid month has been looking like a possible change. The
natural downward trend of background temperature at this time of year
will mean that even polar maritime westerlies of the recent past will be
a bit colder. At least the mean of the high level of uncertaintity is
lower in the ensembles now! There is hope.
