Default Met Office web site ... forcing different default on map display

I have only visited the new site in the last couple of days as I have
still been using the old (bookmarked) observations tables.

New site It is a perishing nightmare, grrr. Frustrating in the
extreme. Can't even find out yesterday's UK extremes, it insists on
providing me with "London and South East England" and invites me to
"change my location" to get some other region. I don't want some other
region, I want the bl**dy UK figures, can anyone tell mejhow, on that
new Met Office site? I also want a TABLE of all UK hourly obs from Met
Office sites, I can't get that either! And I do not want a flipping
map! At least I can turn off the back garden mapped sites of every Tom
Dick and Harry though, thank goodness for that.

And the hourly obs map and links to individual stations are an hour
behind the old site - this is utter rubbish.

So it's back to the old site for me and when they pull it, I will be
off somewhere else.

I'm afraid Dave, we are not a 'key stakeholder', just a minor interest group

From Met O

'Consultation

Consultation has been carried out over the past 12 months with key
stakeholders across all areas of our business to identify the
information you need and expect to find when visiting our website. We
have incorporated the main findings from this consultation for example
extending three-hourly forecasts out to five days ahead.'

Well I have fired off my feedback, they seem to be having a lot of
that at the moment and I bet it's not generally positive! First line
of their acknowledgement reads:

"At the moment we are experiencing high volumes of emails, so it may
take us a little longer than usual to reply."

I don't expect a response any time soon.

That's a standard reply and means nothing except "You may
eventually get a reply". Whether or not that reply addresses or even
admits to the problem is another matter. You're asking a corporate
entity to admit it is less than perfect and, what's more, to do
something about it. They don't like that, especially from non-steak
keyholders.

I got a reply. It started:-

"Dear Tudor,

Thank you for your email in connection with Met Office website
Rainfall Radar. I will raise this with our Web Tean for their
appreisal."

One typo and one spelling mistake. The rest of the reply (about
90%) simply refers me to various links, including the dreadful page
itself and the Met Office's stated reasons for change.
Surely this useless irritating site cannot be allowed to
continue? It's like marketing a new car with a 3-speed crash
gearbox.

"Thank you for your ongoing feedback in connection with the UK
extremes table. Your feedback has been passed to me for review and
I've also seen an email which you wrote to UK.sci.weather...

You are not alone in wishing to see the return of the UK Extremes
table so I hope its reassuring to know your feedback will be reported
to our Public Weather Service (PWS) team for their consideration.
Everything you see on our Public Weather pages is driven by the
requirements of the Public Weather Service Customer Group (PWSCG) and
more about their framework can be found he

Having said this, the PWS team are able to implement the return of
poplar information which the public te ll us they miss, so your
contribution will be helpful with this decision.

I cannot comment about a time scale for this work, so please bear with
us, and thank you for your patience in the meantime. Can you let Tudor
Hughes know too please?

Time will tell what impact our feedback has, we can but live in hope.

Hadn't realised arboriculture was so popular.

I didn't write it, it was a direct copy and paste from the Met Office
email to me. Sic, innit?
