Default Cold and wet!

Well after 11 out of 13 colder than average months (some much colder) I did
think May would give us some warmth but how wrong could I be!!

Max today of 8.9c in the sunshine we did actually manage 2 hours today.

A lot of heavy showers, some big hail showers too with temps falling down to
4.9c in the really heavy showers.

Forecast for the next 10 days looks dire!

Mean for this month so far is 0.6c BELOW average but hey what's new, seems
to be the norm these days.

Do hope we get some warm days this Summer, 2006 seems a long time ago

Raining again now and current temp 4.6c

I thought I would struggle to make double figures yesterday but
I made it, just! Max of 10.0°C and that was only because there
some sun between the showers.

I hate these cool and cloudy May days, they are so depressing.

I always think of May as a warm and optimistic month, with summer only
just around the corner but it seems as though winter is refusing to
loosen its grip, except for a few days over the recent Bank Holiday.

I wonder if 2013 will be remembered as the year when winter
never seemed to end and summer never seemed to start?

I remember that after a warm start, May 1995 was cool and quite wet.
Then looked what happened! One of the best summers I've ever known.

Same as 2012 and 2011 then.
It's getting to be something of a habit here.

I do think we are being unduly hard on May as a month in recent years!

Remember, May 2008 was the warmest May in Coventry since 1992.

Only four May months had been warmer than 2008 since before 1892 (1893, 1919, 1947and 1992).

With an average monthly temperature of 11.4ºC, this has been the coldest May in Coventry since 1996 (9.6ºC).

However May 2010 was the coolest May (11.4C) locally in 14 years, though mean May monthly temperatures of this order were very much the normal in the 1980’s, and in that decade 11.4ºC as a monthly average would have been considered quite respectable.

All in all, recent cooling seems to have taken us back to 'pre warming days' of the 1980's.

Summer could still come as apleasant surprise!

Only six weeks and the evenings start drawing in :-0

One would have thought there had been a massive volcanic eruption
given the coolness of the past year.

Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised once we get into June and
Wimbledon is upon us "I'm singing in the rain"

Didn't the GW bandwagon say after the Summer of 2006 we had better get used
to these hot, dry summers with 40c plus very soon.............gone tits up
ever since
