Hi
There has been quite a bit of talk about the future of UKSW and the state it's currently in. As you know for the last 18 months or so I've been promoting a blog (http://xmetman.wordpress.com) that I've built, as well as publicise my Central England Temperature web site (http://www.centralenglandtemperature.co.uk/). Its not easy on both scores to interest people in weather and climate when there are so many sites across the internet trying to do the same thing, but I have been heartened over the last couple of weeks since starting to post to the Net Weather forum that finally (after a lot of hard work) my blog is starting to pick up some interest. I don't think that anyone of us can fix what's wrong with UKSW, it's a reflection of all the people who still bother to post to it, many out of habit. What I'm currently doing is cross posting topics to both UKSW and the appropriate forum at Net Weather and seeing what kind of response (if any) I get.. Its the acid test for me, and I think if you try it I think you'll find it refreshing and a lot more pleasant. Bruce. |

UKweatherworld.co.uk Good bunch of people on UKWW. Very little if any pettiness and some serious scientific contributors. This is not to say there aren't some on other forums but UKWW, in my opinion, seems the best in this regard. Joe |

You have a point but its great to be able to embed images with your post rather than point people at a URL. Bruce. |

I'm pretty much fed up with the lack of restraint on here so will go and learn from that forum. Sad because this place is the first thing I check in the morning, after emails. Dullish's poison has nearly killed this ng. :-( He is not killing the group; I'm sorry to say that it's those who are leaving the group instead of kill-filing him that are responsible. I rarely, if ever, see Dawlish's posts these days so, in effect, he and his 'poison' just don't exist. Why, in that case, would I want to run away from here with my tail between my legs? I do follow a few forums, but only when there is no alternative. Most of them are quite inferior to NNTP; the rest are very inferior. With one piece of software, I can see on a single screen the state of all my mail, RSS feeds and over thirty newsgroups. I can set it to automatically update and highlight groups that have new posts. Could someone like to explain how I would be able to manage that with forums? As I said, I have reluctantly joined a few forums but get fed up with the way they have different user-interfaces which often fail to do many of the things I can do with a newsreader. Many times I've had to figure out which way to achieve something an a particular forum, only to finally realise that it's not possible on that one. Please, people, don't run away. -- Graham P Davis, Bracknell, Berks. 'To do is to be' - Nietzsche 'To be is to do' - Kant 'Do be do be do' - Sinatra |
