The sad thing is that it looks like being so close that,
whichever way the vote goes, there's going to be a lot of very unhappy and dissatisfied people in Scotland. It can hardly do much for community spirit. John Hall Yes, I think you're right there, Alex Salmond etc, has done a lot of damage, regardless which way the vote goes. Keith (Southend) Not to the Scots he hasn't. You are speaking just like a bloody Englishman - you just don't understand! Ardmhor Much as I hate to disagree with Ardmhor, I have to say that I fear that John is right, and I am a Scot born and bred and resident in Scotland. There was little appetite for a constitutional change of this magnitude until the SNP started stirring things up, and, now that the result is likely to be so close, there will indeed be resentment by the more extreme elements on whichever side loses. That is already manifesting itself in defacement and destruction of both Yes and No campaign posters and attacks (fortunately mostly still verbal) by one side on the other, and I have heard reports of other malicious acts, such as cars with a campaign sticker being vandalised. Community spirit is being affected and, whatever the outcome, the process has already done a good deal of damage. Anne |
