Hi
With apologies for going so much off topic. I've just taken my first step down the Mac road with the purchase of a Macbook. It's assumed there'll be some other Mac users on here. If so, would you be kind enough to let me know what newsreaders you're using please and what you think of them ? I'm not sorry to leave Windows behind but will sorely miss Turnpike, an ageing but excellent newsreader. Thanks in anticipation. -- Jim |

You could ask for advice on , say, uk.comp.sys.mac On iOS I uses NewsTap. Welcome aboard :-) |

Thunderbird for mail and news, first class Thunderbird is pretty good but has the same problem as MS Mail - and possibly any other mail application that use the same storage system - in that you have to be careful when prompted to compact mail folders; if you don't go off-line when doing it, you may lose the odd e-mail. I just Google groups in Safari. I did use Unison for a while but you have to subscribe to their server.

Welcome aboard :-) Many thanks EP, I'm now reading uk.comp.sys.mac ( still on Turnpike too but I must finally say goodbye to WIndows) I've read about Unison which seems good but no longer supported, I think. Thanks too for the Mac welcome, I decided to go down the Mac route after using an iPhone, which I really like. There's a slight learning curve but so far I've no regrets about changing OS whatsoever. Liefbowitz writes Run WINE or CrossOver on your Mac and you can put Turnpike or Forté's Agent in a bottle to run as though it was in Windows. You could even copy your old Turnpike over to the Mac, complete with database, settings and filters. www.codeweavers.com for CrossOver. I have no financial interest in this company but I do use the program. Mand. Thanks Mand there's some interesting stuff there, I'd thought about using Boot Camp but maybe your links offer a better solution ? Do you find Cross Over works well ? Cheers -- Jim |

Trevor Thanks Trevor I realise Google groups is always available, it's just that I've used Turnpike for more than 20 years now, consequently I do like a specific newsreader. -- Cheers Jim |

Turnpike is such an excellent all round mail and newsreader, I think perhaps I'm judging everything else against it. -- Cheers Jim |
