I've been keeping an eye on the GFS op runs for Christmas Day / coupled

possibly record warmth.

Think I'll be wearing T shirt & shorts for my Christmas day meal
This month is going to be so mild it's obscene really.
I can see this muck lasting well into January. Oh well maybe it will do a
1975 and we will get a white Easter

Vile day today, foggy and dripping wet, already had 10 of the 15 days with no
sun. 15 days gone..................sun hours a pathetic 11.3 hours

8.0 hours here, Graham. Unrelenting thick fog today.

today too.

Will 3 months of this and we will all be totally depressed. Don't get me
wrong the warmth's ok, it's just the ****e it brings with it!

Don't worry it won't last 3 months. It's all down to El Nino apparently and
you can read it all here

Fortunately this vile SW'ly mild spell has done little damage to winter as I
normally reckon on winter starting around 21st lasting into March.
Other years have had similar, but not quite this bad.

Have you written a winter forecast, Will? URL please if so

The Mrs. bought me an early Xmas present-an outdoor LED strip light set plus solar panel.
I put it outside on the S. facing balcony. It's yet to come on!

Wasted in late autumn.

Unusually many of us are stuck in the same situation. Not everyone, but
I'm sure the majority like it cold in winter more because of the
brightness it usually brings, even if only off of reflected light from
the snow on the ground, rather than the cold itself. Yes, snow can
cause problems, but let's face it, it is beautiful isn't it. Plus these
days there is the bonus of seeing a rare weather phenomenon !

15 hours here - it is dire. The only thing to commend it is the low
heating bills. I've slept with the window open every day this month - I
often have to close it in the summer!

Same here!
I know I moaned about the snow last month but I have a feeling that 's the
only snow we will see year and indeed maybe the whole Winter
The mild stuff's ok when it's dry and the sun pops out once in a while.
I'm afraid most of the time all this set up brings is endless days of
total dross!

Agreed it's the pits. Made even worse by people saying "at least it is mild"
as if that is any consolation for perpetual gloom and dampness.
Give me sun and -10C any day, or even sun and +10C, or even sun .... what's
that you ask?

'At least its mild'. Because, fortunately, it is and it is far more preferable to lowland snow and ice before Christmas. This Christmas is highly likely to be green and mild for most; exactly what Christmas travellers - including my family - need! Snow and ice would add up to a Christmas nightmare for so many.

We had a couple of hours of sun in Dawlish and 14C (yet again). Back to murk now, but this murk is far more preferable to the white stuff in the run-up to the 25th.
