happened since October 2002 . Still to see an air frost this autumn; the
minimum of 0.7° is the lowest so far. Only 10.4mm of rain so far this
month which is more than the total for either August and September.

How come you've avoided frost when most of southern England hasn't?

Avoided here too at Bedford, lowest +1.1. I am pretty centrally located tho.
A lot of sites around here seem to have just missed out tho. A blob of cloud
over us was the prob the other night.

Hi, Alan,

Only a couple of slight air frosts here. I think the major low temps
around here have been confined to frost hollows. It's been far too
breezy at our elevation.

I think it is more a result of cloud floating around and/or a light
breeze. I can get low night temperatures given suitable conditions.

My site is on the side of a very slight hill but is sheltered by houses
and fences nearby.

Here in Cheltenham there have already been 5 air-frosts this October,
and as I write (9.15pm) the temperature is already down to 1.4°C...

It's twice been down to -3.8°C.

So you've been stuck with the dry spell without even any frosts to
compensate? That would have driven me mad!

BTW, I've had 5.4mm in the past 5 days, and with minimal evaporation &
copious dew, the grass has started to perk up a little. Of course, the
frost has already dealt a death-blow to delicate plants.
