Col, I strongly disagree, we never see charts like that these days. To be
fair we haven't seen many like that during the last century but they did
occasionaly happen.

Sorry to be a killjoy but those setups are no longer possible.... sorry
fella's!

Of course the set-ups are possible.
The only question is if they would produce the level of cold/snow
today that would have ocurred a few decades ago.

What factors would make that impossible in the UK yet still possible in
New England? I suppose you can argue that New England has less of a
maritime influence when the wind is from N or NW than is the case in the
UK whatever the wind direction..

Well basically, the charts Neil posted show a very good potential cold set
up. We get a post like this every couple of weeks but because they are for
two weeks from now they very rarely materialise and smallish changes can
ruin the cold potential. Really , they should be ignored except for those
that always need hope. (I could be one such!)
However, to say they will never happen is also daft because ANYTHING can
happen, it's just not that likely these days.
Stick to two days ahead this week because that might be ok!

Dave

From the wetterzentrale.de site how do you actually get to these
gif's? Obviously you can select them each day, but I can't find how
you got there :-(

.... not sure if I have understood your question Keith, but to pull the
url for an individual file in Netscape, load the file, then right-click;
select 'Copy Image Location', (which copies same to your clipboard),
then in your post (or wherever), select 'Paste' and the appropriate url
is pasted. In IE, (which I don't use for this purpose), I *think* you
right-click, then use 'Properties', then copy and paste the url. (But
others may have better ways to do this).

Martin.
