It is an insult to you Neil.

I read Matts forecast on TheWeatherOutlook.com and in all fairness his
forecast was dead accurate with what "could" have happened. At the end of
the day, the models screwed up and if Matt had known that the models would
be so far out then I'm sure would have adjusted his forecast accordingly.

Matt also provided a discussion on the site as the situation was developing,
but few forecasters would have gone with the outside bet that with all the
surface convergence going on at the time that the potential was not achieved
for some potential action above 500hpa.

From what I have seen, Matt is turning out to be a cracking meteorologist
and after he passes his examinations, I'm sure he will go on to much bigger
and better things with his fantastic enthusiasm and has my full support.

I completely agree with you Andrew - NGUK - don't see you posting detailed
possible storm forcasts ?

I have to say I was surprised to see that hardly a drop fell here in
Guildford - especially after all the forecasts of intensifying rain over
Eastern areas AND all the rain reports to just the W of here at 19z last
night.

There was a nil recording, and the ground looked absolutely bone dry here
this morning where I live, although I did see evidence of rain on the

roads
within 1/2 a mile of here on my way to work..

When I looked at the rain fall radar this morning - just a faint line went
through here in the early hours, but there was significant rain showing

just
off the SE coast - so it was close..

Actually if you use your eyes, and scroll up ive been forecasting storms
in the past and ive been right a number of times... and yes ive got it wrong
too
which i admit. Dont forget i do it as a hobby, i dont get payed, i dont lie
to people
i dont backstab on my friends

Maybe that will sink in with you.

Too many people on this newsgroup are sucked in by
the same mistake i and many others have made.

P.S Try and figure out why Matt Hugo was banned
from many weather channels on irc, ill give you the rest
of your life to think of that one.

Matt hugo is a crap forecaster, always has been always will
i hope he doesnt make it to the met office.

This is the truth live with it!

I read Matts forecast on TheWeatherOutlook.com and in all fairness his

Forecasters aren't paid to forecast what "could" have happened. Any fool
can do that. They're paid to forecast what "does" happen. And how do we know
whether what "could" have happened could have happened. It certainly didn't
happen. Maybe it couldn't have happened. Nobody will ever know.

At the end of
the day, the models screwed up and if Matt had known that the models would
be so far out then I'm sure would have adjusted his forecast accordingly.

So his forecast is entirely dependent on the model output, and if the
model is no good then so is Matt's forecast. In what sense, then, is he a
forecaster, and if he's so clever, why didn't he foresee that the model was
going wrong? After all, he is not bound by the model in the way the Met Office
is and could have looked at it, as some of us do, and said, "Nah, can't be",
and produced a forecast of his own. But he didn't.
When he contributed to this group he struck me as a self-important little
prat, and for a student none too literate.
