Has anyone worked round the fact that when you purchase a .tif file from the
MO your software doesn't recognise it as such - i.e. gives it a windows icon? -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

Tagged Image Format files should be recognised by MS Paint as an image file at least. Right click on the icon as you hold down the shift key and go to "Open with..." Scroll down the list for a suitable image program such as Paint Shop Pro or one of the free ones you can download, such as Irfanview. Put a tick in the "always use this program for ...etc ". Your icons should now change. Martin I use Irfanview, and I have it set for being the default application for tif files, but they alway appear with a windows icon until after I've opened them once Trevor -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

It's more capable than you might think from seeing its odd interface. For the hawk-eyed the icons can be set to a thumbnail preview. Regards, Tom |

You may have 'purchased' it in T4 format which is a WMO version of a TIF file, and that wouldn't display in any of the programs mentioned. Get back to the people you purchased it from and ask for it in TIF and not T4 format. Bruce. "Tom Allen" wrote in message ... Get back to the people you purchased it from and ask for it in TIF and not T4 format. I don't think there's any choice in the way its provided. Its a case of logging in to the website purchasing the product and saving it. I don't suppose they'd re-hash the whole website just for me. Its not a major problem as I can choose which application to open it with, and open it. Its just that with downloading say 12 charts at 3 am, when it takes 12 clicks to print each off, any way of speeding this up would be useful. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

BTW, T4 is just a compression method, one of those which can be used within TIF files ( used for single bit black and white images, eg. fax) nothing peculiar to the WMO although the T4 bulletin form is. Trevor - This is what I use and have for the last 10 or so years, when I first had bother viewing those very same .TIF files. This is a link to a free trial version of ACDSee. It's quite a big package now - around 13MB from memory, but it will work. Worth a look anyway. http://www.acdsystems.com/English/Pr...=TrialMedCM-EN -- Mike 55.13°N 6.69°W Coleraine posted to uk.sci.weather 14/02/2004 16:07:55 UTC |
