It is a serious point though as this job must be very senior in the Met Office heirarchy. I suspect a job of that stature in business would command a larger salary than the one offered. I realise that nobody joins the MetO to get rich but if science based jobs keep the reputation they have of being poorly rewarded it will be difficult to attract the brightest and best into this area which I think is absolutely vital for the country a a whole. When a very modest hosue costs £250,000 in the SE a salary of £60,000 is needed to be able to get a mortgage of sufficient size. Well, looks like something will have to give then. Peter Alan I would guess less than 5% in the MetO earn a salary like that. Mind you nobody joins the MetO to get rich :-) But you do get to see 1Km resolution radar updated at 5 minute intervals LOL. Steve Loft : You've completely boggled me there. You apply for a job where you know you are guaranteed an interview. You know you have no chance of getting the job, but you apply anyway and attend the interview. And then you complain it's a waste of time! Why apply in the first place? OK replace the second occurrence of the word "know" above with "suspect". I've applied for jobs in the past I suspect I didn't have a chance of getting, but I still hoped. If I'd had to go to interviews for all those jobs, I'd have been a little fed up, not to say disheartened. In the end I got one. Adrian -- Adrian Shaw ais@ Adran Cyfrifiadureg, Prifysgol Cymru, aber.
