and scientist warn that this could just be the tip of the iceberg.

was that a joke ?

No,it was a Little Gem.

That cannot be true. Not only was it another personal attack on me and
my theories, in the article it says:
Dr Brian Smyth of the Communicable Diseases Surveillance Centre said
that
about two-thirds of those affected had eaten lettuce, "either in a burger
or
at a meal in a restaurant".
May I be permitted to point out that we do not serve Little Gem lettuces
at
McDonalds! smileys deleted (in view of the serious scientific content of
this
message)

What proportion of those affected had drunk dihydrogen monoxide?

See http://www.metla.fi/archive/forest/1.../msg00041.html

I wish. Even so I find lettuce boring, so I usually put in greens with

some
flavour, such as rocket, watercress or spinach, liberally covered in

some
dressing and with lots of onion, little hot chili peppers and tomato.

You forgot the coriander, Martin !

I don't know how many of you have heard about the Salmonella infected
Lettuces in the last few days. Two hundred odd people affected

apparently,
and scientist warn that this could just be the tip of the iceberg.

Worrying.

Yes I did, and the basil and parsley, all of which add a bit of flavour to the
salad, but can't get better than using just a tiny bit of one of those explosive
little red chilies, just be careful not to touch any delicate part of your
anatomy after cutting and handling it!

Why would you want to cut and handle a sensitive part of your anatomy?

I also find lettuce boring, but I have an even simpler solution. I don't
bother to eat it. That way I avoid both boredom and salmonella.
