Have to think about putting the heating on soon :-)

Hi, Will,

Heating only goes off in July and August (on some days!) Open fire and
oil CH on 24hr all year.

I blame it on cold girlies, but I'm a softie northener really (;0)

Some recent posts on putting heating on made me shiver. I just let the
thermostat do the worrying, set at 22C.

I don't think we'll make 10C (outside!) today, same as yesterday thanks
to our friendly North Sea.

Best wishes,

1100 local 9/10/04

Wind steady due easterly at force 4 and now gusting 25 knots and rising
gradually. Quite cold with temperature 8.7 deg C. Still dry but cloud thickening
and increasing. Lumpy altostratus in layers with ragged stratocumulus below.

Have to think about putting the heating on soon :-)

Will.

22C! Thats tropical, daytime is 18.5C evenings 21C (I think) and like
you the heating is left on all year and the programmable thermostat
takes care of it.

I don't think we'll make 10C (outside!) today, same as yesterday
thanks to our friendly North Sea.

Hovering around 5C today, max yesterday was 9.4 but not for long,
generally between 5 and 10C. Last night min 3C.

As for Will getting exited about F4. Will, that is not windy! Wouldn't
even notice it up here. If we can't hear it, it's not windy. Below F6
we can't hear...

I grudgingly capitulated earlier this week, Will. I blame the katabatic from
Mt. Haytor ;-)

Dave, I agree, I'm only excited because I now have an anemometer and I can see
the cups whirling round, LOL.

Yes I only really call it windy at force 6 and above, anything below that is a
gentle breeze :-) The last "good" easterly we had tore off a couple of slates so
it is my "best" direction. Force 4 the trees begin to move, force 5 one starts
to hear the wind down the chimney, force 6 it begins to roar, force 7 and 8 all
the doors rattle and bits of branch and twigs are flying through the air, force
9 and the roof becomes vulnerable, force 10 - I have never experienced yet at
home.

Today's max was 10.4 deg C (AWS). Max gust still only 25 knots at 3m agl. At
least it has now started raining (since 1600).

Cheers,

Will.

Managed a max temp of 13.4C in Exeter today, phew! No rain yet but the
cloud has been slowly thickening all afternoon so I'd guess it's arrival
is imminent,

Pete

A few drops currently in Dorset just west of Dorchester. As far as I
can make out, the low pressure will not progress northwards much and
will slide off south. The radar showed a mass of rain just off the
coast earlier but...

Will, how are you finding the Vantage Pro. Are your readings for temp and rainfall comparable with your manual equipment.

I guessed as much, when it's windy you can't see the cups...

force 10 - I have never experienced yet at home.

Only once not long after we moved in, there have not been the same
sort of storms since then. Take a peek at:

http://www.howhill.com/weather/1999/events/1224.html

The shed roof took a 25 yard+ flying lesson down the side of the house
clean over a 6' wall, across the road and clipped the 4' drystone wall
the other side. Fun clearing the road of the debris and rescuing
things from the shed that wouldn't appreciate getting wet.

Today's max was 10.4 deg C (AWS). Max gust still only 25 knots...

7.3C up here, very little wind max of F4 odd gust 20mph (17kts).
Starting to get a bit chilly if you are out had to put a fleece and
wind proof on this morning to ward of the -5C wind chill.

Hi Rob,

Early days, but I am very impressed so far. Temperature and humidity are
excellent. Temperature agrees to within 0.5 deg C and humidity to well within
+/- 5%.
Sometimes the humidity reading are identical and temperature to within 0.1 deg
C. My screen and VP are about 15m apart and almost at the same height above
ground with the VP on slightly higher ground and more exposed.
Today Max AWS 10.4 Screen 10.6 deg C
Today Min AWS 6.0 Screen 6.0 deg C
Today humidity at 1800 87% in the screen 86% on AWS
Today temperature at 1800 9.1 C AWS 9.2 deg C in screen

Rainfall is also excellent, although the manual gauge is better at measuring
amounts up to 0.3 mm of course. The two gauges are 2m apart.

Pressure is also excellent and the wind speeds look realistic given that the
anemometer is at 3m agl.

Comparison will be easier once I get my data logger.

Cheers,

Will.
