I have been watching lightning for around 40 minutes now from a line of Cb
clouds way way in the distance to the N-West of here. Approx 1 strike/30 seconds - to 1 strike/minute. They are lightning the clouds up a nice purple colour - very pretty - no thunder heard so must be quite a difference. My Strikemaster is picking some of them up but not all - I image this is the line of storms towards Northampton ? Visibility must be very good. One Cb is active - then seems to decay - then the one behind it becomes active etc etc. Mark. |

Which prompted me to look out of the window and sure enough there was the lightning on the NW horizon All the best -- George in Epping, West Essex (107m asl) www.eppingweather.co.uk |

No problems George - one of those things you have to spot first then start
watching - I just caught one by accident. Some of them are now nice long C-C strikes which are pretty. There is a long row of Cb clouds - and there will be no activity for a couple of minutes then one will discharge and then some of the others within 1 second or so - how are they electrically linked ? Can you still see lightning Mark?
My friend in Danbury says there are no clouds at all. Tom Docklands, East London "Mark Buckley" wrote in message ... I recall 3 years ago watching an August evening storm here that later turned out to have been over The Wash - about 100 miles away and, sometime in the 1980s, from NW Durham a summer storm over the W. Cumbrian Coast - again about the same distance. BTW - quite a bit of Ac drifting in from the west - looks very good silhouetted against the moon. - Tom. Blackmore, SW Essex. |

Tom,
Yes but not that often. Have a look at these photos I took of the Cb clouds in the distant before it got too dark- first one digitally enhanced to make them more visible. 2nd one was taken when it was dark - its a 30 second exposure. Don't seem as active - but they are still dischargin occasionally and my Strikealert is picking some of them up. Question - lastet Avbrief shows some interesting development - Norfolk -is it Anaprop again or actual storms ? http://www.mark-buckley.pwp.blueyond...uk/distant.jpg http://www.mark-buckley.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/6.jpg.jpg Mark.
