Solder each lead then insulate it. Finish it off with that self - amalgamating tape that radio amateurs are fond of using - or seal the repair in a waterproof box with liberal amounts of silicon around the entry & exit holes. Surely you need those small crimp slices that you squeeze together with a pair of plyers. Unfortunately I can't get onto the RS Components website to show what I mean. Then the joint(s) need water proofing. -- Keith (Southend) 'Weather Home & Abroad' http://www.southendweather.net Will what does the cable carry, voltage or data? Sorry Will that was stupid (up late awaiting the Ricky Hatton fight)disregard that. I meant is it power supply, data or both ?. Isn't there a wireless version ? |

the problem on how to join the two loose ends, fortunately there is still enough cable to do that. I have done a lot of household electrics in the past having re-wired my own house a few years back but have never worked with such fine cable. There are 4 wires in the cable all very thin, what is the best way to join them ? Any advice gratefully received ! Take a look at http://rswww.com/ and I think you're looking for part number 469-1818 The other way to do it is to find yourself a BT man in a van and ask him for a slack handfull of their Vaseline filled crimp connectors.... I'm not too hot with a soldering iron and I don't have a small one so I'll give that route a miss. Lawrence the cable just carries data as I have a wireless VP. Beware when using crimps in hostile environments, vaseline filled or not
still add a second layer of protection (self - amalgamating tape) as they are prone to all kinds of strange faults especially when data are involved (electrolytic action, poor connections, things like that). Thin cable doesn't mean you can't solder it! Cheers - Les Will Hand wrote: "Nick" wrote in message ... - And on Sat, 4 Jun 2005 22:29:42 +0100, it was spake thus in |

I have found that remains watertight indefinitely. Cheers, James -- James Brown |

Don't laugh, but the cows in the paddock have chewed through the data cable from my anemometer. Cow-related damage is a long-standing problem with instruments in the great outdoors. For ionosondes (radio sounders of the ionosphere) the standard URSI code to indicate "No data for non-ionospheric reasons" is 'C'. I am told this letter was chosen because cows had a habit of destroying the antennas at the first ever sounder, at the Radio Research Station at Ditton Park in Slough. Dartmoor cows are just continuing a proud bovine tradition.
