I don't know about anyone else, but this current spell is already the
warmest such spell I've recorded this late in the season (in 23 years), with no sign yet of a definitive end. I was rather hoping we'd be shot of hot/humid weather by now. -- Paul Hyett, Cheltenham |

The days are pleasant, around 20C and the nights below 5C with ground frosts! Screen mins last night were 2.5C at Copley Lead Mill and 4.3C, grass -1.6C at Copley Met O site. We have the coal fire on, admittedly set on very low and I do live with a lizard! Best wishes, -- Ken Cook Copley (253m, 830ft) & Copley Lead Mill (218m, 715ft) 5 miles north of Barnard Castle, County Durham. (All times GMT) http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/copley |

Winter must be on its way - noted Orion rising early in the morning.... mars is quite striking in the night sky atm and you can see the disc quite well in 8x30 binoculars. A nice quiet pastime. Makes a change from nearly getting on the wrong end of a +cg superbolt (: Les -- Les Crossan, Wallsend, Tyne & Wear 54.95N 1.5W Home of the Wallsend StormCam and the Backup USW FAQ - www.uksevereweather.org.uk |

I suspect the forecast for here was way out today (I've been forecasting
3-10 days so way out of touch with 24-48 hrs). I was half expecting it to be uncomfortably hot, but it was cool enough to get out in the garden with the hedge trimmer at 1600- cloudy, windy and around 18c ALL DAY - bootiful. East Yorkshire |

Thought we'd have a cool night last night, given the evening dewpoint of 6.5C, but the DP short up during the night without a warm front even going through. -- Paul Hyett, Cheltenham |

It's not been at all warm up here. Highest so far this September just
17.4C with today managing only 16.6C. These figures could only be described as average for early September. On the same Saturday last year 25.1C was recorded at Dyce. Richard Slessor, Aberdeen. |

On the same Saturday last year 25.1C was recorded at Dyce. Richard Slessor, Aberdeen. A pleasant maximum of 21.5ºC in Wishaw today. Tomorrow is looking better still. Hopefully this warmth will spread in your direction tomorrow Richard, but I guess the breeze coming off the cool North sea is the main reason that your temperatures are hovering around average? The Dyce figure from last year is very exceptional, probably a one in twenty year event? Which do you prefer in winter, mild fohn days? Or cold and snowy spells? I definitely preffer the latter. And "Indian summers", whilst enjoyable at the time, may not help the chances of proceeding winters being colder than average. The north sea can take a while to cool down. Although, the warm autumns in 1978 and 1995 might disprove any association. Alex. |
