The Royal Institute Lecture is due to be shown on Channel 4 at noon.

Originally the Reith Lectures on the BBC, they are about Antarctica this
year. Sorry to be a downer but a biologist is giving them this year.

Still they may be interesting

They have nothing to do with the Reith lectures. Michael Faraday started the
Royal Institution lectures in the mid 1820s as you would have known if you
bothered to look at the Royal Institution's web site.

Lloyd Peck is a marine biologist and I can't see why this is a bad thing to
be when discussing Antarctica given that virtually all of the Antartic
wildlife is marine.

And having just watched it, I have to say it was well worth watching ...
looking forward to the rest.

I thought you were a bit harsh on Michael... he may have got some
facts wrong and joked about a biologist - but he was only trying to
help!

Unfortunately, I missed today's lecture but I shall certainly watch
the rest - for the biology and for any weather content. Thanks to
Michael for the heads-up.

Indeed. I think they've been rather disappointing in recent years, but
today's was excellent.

So what happened to the Reith Lectures?

Well it is certainly better than come dangling and bugger brother and
whatever passes for entertainment otherwise these days. But the trouble
with non meteorologists is they tend to get their people from the
section of the community not adept at coming in out of the rain. Not my
cup of tea personally but it takes all sorts.

Hero worshipping idiots is a regular pastime on the TV these days.

Best have the truth told even by snow men eh?

Excuse me for asking stupid questions but why expend the opportunity for
a good science show on an expert whose only specimens are human?

As if they have to go to the ends of the earth to meet idiots.

Years ago I read a book called Year Of The Quiet Sun. I thoroughly
recommend that. Now that's the sort of thing they aught to do.
