The problem I have is this: If CO2 is such a powerful greenhouse gas
Methane and Water Vapour are much worse ) , then why is Mars so cold?
Average atmospheric pressure on Mars is 6 millibars.
Enough to generate big dust storms though!
Indeed. Beagle 2 is due to land in Isidis Planitia - a low lying basin - just
at the end of the dust storm season. One unseasonal dust storm and... no
power.
BTW, I've always wondered what the surface temperature of Venus would be
if its atmosphere was the same composition as Earth's.
Estimated average surface temperature - 460 - 490C
Estimated greenhouse effect - 450 - 500K
Average Earth surface temperature ~ 15C
Estimated Earth greenhouse effect - 33K
