I could have told them for nothing the weather would be dire on Wednesday
night. And if they'd read this newgroup on Wednesday evening they might have
seen it sooner themselves LOL.
But then again, sleet and some 50mph gusts of wind isn't exactly out of the
ordinary for Edinburgh on Hogmanay. Dare I say, a little more forethought
into making some of the temporary constructions more weather proof wouldn't
have gone a miss. The hindsight was there, but foolishly ignored no doubt to
increase profit margins.

Yes, I heard there were winds gusting up to a whopping 48mph!
As you say hardly unusual at this time of year and you would have
thought the marqees could have been built to withstand that.
Now if it had been 80mph winds I could have understood it........
Another problem was the fireworks. 48mph may not sound much
but it would have been much higher at height. The wind would
a been a atrong southerly and I'm assuming that they were to be
launched from the castle and Princes Street to the north would
have been packed with people. Somebody has to make a decision.
It *could* have been dangerous. It would only have taken one strong
gust of wind and a firework goes off in the crowd..........
