Even in North Yorkshire it was much worse on Monday than it is today.
We are getting snow but with an air temperature of nearly 6C it is
melting as fast as it arrives. Quite windy and lots of lying snow
around from Monday and Tuesday (approx 12cm) but no new snow sticking
to bare earth or roads now. And the accumulations of snow are visibly
melting.

Seems like the thaw that a Dutch poster referred to earlier.

I expect it is bad high on the moors but then it often is up there!

BBC Breakfast kept going on and on about today's snow being the worst of it.
Problem was, where I was stood - outside the big screen in Manchester City
Centre, it was raining! The two days preceding it had the proper snow.

Considering that it was the East that was supposed to get most of the snow, I
was surprised to see nearly an inch of it on the ground when I set off for work
(and it was still snowing at 7.30am in Whitefield), but disappointed that once I
reached Victoria Station in Manchester it was rain, rain, rain :-(
