Default [OT] Bracknell Met Office site plans

As there will be people looking-in on this ng who have memories of (and
may be interested in the fate of) the London Road site and are not
living locally, this may be of interest: from today's 'Bracknell News'.
Extracts only: .....

extracts

"Plans to build 275 homes on the former Met Office site will be shown to
the public at an exhibition next week. Fairview New Homes, which bought
the site in August, wants to knock down the existing buildings and
replace them with what is expected to be a mixture of flats and houses.
The landmark building has been empty since winter 2003 when the Met
Office moved to new headquarters in Exeter."

.... " there were concerns about the amount of traffic that would be
produced by the new development. "

.... " chairwoman of Bullbrook Community Association, said 'I think
200-odd flats would not be welcome to the people in Bracknell'. She said
that people in Bracknell wanted the site turned into a hospital for the
town .... this has now been ruled out. "

" Revamping the site is a crucial part of the borough council council's
Eastern Gateway Brief, which set out a vision in 2003 of how councillors
wanted it to become an attractive entrance to the regenerated town
centre."

" ... it (the Council) recommended mostly housing for the redeveloped
eastern gateway, which includes not only the Met Office but also the
area around Bracknell and Wokingham College in Church Road, the Eastern
industrial estate and London Road."

I can remember when this area (i.e. along London Road) was primarily
housing - ribbon development that was demolished to make way for the
various office complexes in the area - coming full circle now.

Martin.
