March snowfalls

Heavy snow on the 4 Mar 1970 with 25 cms and drifts up to 2 feet deep.
There were many other falls during this amazing month with 16 days of
snow falling and 12 days snow lying.
I recorded a total of 40 cms throughout the month.
You would be hard pushed to get any of our Winter months to compete with
that these days.
I think that was the one that dumped 24 inches of level snow on Rushden,
Northants, in four hours. The five-to-eight forecast that morning was
for sunshine and isolated snow showers. It had been snowing since
six-thirty and was estimated to be a foot deep at the time of the
forecast! This wasn't a case of a difficult forecast - just a rank bad one.
