I'm rather surprised to hear that we are running a couple of degrees
above average.

Here my average max so far is 6.0C and min 2.6C.
OK, the min seems a little high and last night was my first air frost
of the month but the whole feel of January so far is very average.

There hasn't been any prolonged very mild weather, indeed I haven't
even reached double figures the highest has been 9.9C.

... the CET is biased towards the Midlands/ N & W Home Counties of
England, so not necessarily applicable to you as to *actual* anomaly,
though I would imagine that given the values you quote above, particular
the minimum, that you will be somewhere at least 1 degC above. Down here
in the 'soft' south, I am running an anomaly (against the whole-month
average) of +1.8degC, having been up as high as +2.3degC a few days ago.
