The quoted figure for Berchtesgarten of minus 43.6 seems to be well below
the figures you mention for Bavaria - it looks a bit suspect to me unless
the station is at altitude. My hazy memories of the place are of a pleasant
lakeside village, which, although surrounded by mountains, wouldn't seem to
be a serious frost hollow. Do you have any info from more reliable sources
on this?

IIRC, the 'Berchtesgarten' site is actually an experimental site in an
extreme frost hollow (enclosed depression at high elevation). This
came up when they had their -46 a few years ago.
