I wouldn't think that those combined with the present SST's in the North Sea
would give much of a bite to a N Easterly by the time it reached the UK.
IIRC, in Jan 1987 just before the real cold hit the UK, the mid day temp in
Helsinki on Fri 9th Jan was around -33C!!. Please correct me someone if I'm
wrong. My actual archived records only go back to 1990 but that was noted
individually at the time because of its severity.

Still, an Arctic blast into Scandi would bring them down pretty suddenly.
