Default Cold spell - cards on the table time...Maybe

Must be very careful using model forecasts involving 850 and 500 MB data,
the bit that really matters around UK waters is the few hundred feet above
the ground. Thicknesses of large chunks of upper air are not the whole
story.
On the whole though, this looks as good a chance as any over recent years of
getting some "traditional" winter weather.
If you like snow, then best to look out for Polar Lows in an "arctic"
northerly, then track whether they will go down the east or west of the UK.

Is this potential cold spell actually going to come off, or (snow lovers)
destined for another let-down?
The GFS run seems wildly different with each run, yet still ends up

bitterly
cold!
All eyes on the ECMWF I presume..

Any thoughts would be welcomed......

Thanks, John
