One of the TV forecasts was warning of flooding due to heavy rain in
combination with melting snow. After the lack of rain in the first
half of this month and the low RH I was surprised at how quickly the
runnels over the A814 appeared yesterday. We had builders in yesterday
uncovering a blocked drain and they struck water at about 450mm down
so the water table couldn't have sunk very far. However, I suspect
that the depth of the water table here is heavily influenced by the
depth of the bed rock, in our case about 600mm.
In the last half hour, for the first time since Monday evening, we can
now see more than about 2km and the cloud base has lifted to more than
700 metres. No snow visible.
