. We had builders in yesterday
uncovering a blocked drain and they struck water at about 450mm down
so the water table couldn't have sunk very far. However, I suspect
that the depth of the water table here is heavily influenced by the
depth of the bed rock, in our case about 600mm.

We are raised beach -- free draining sandy loam -- nearly pure sand in
places
We have lying water patches all over the fields again :~(
The spring fed ponds we have all over had only dropped a couple of inches in
the drier spell. The water was locked in the soil by the frost.
We need some weeks of dry to make a difference

In the last half hour, for the first time since Monday evening, we can
now see more than about 2km and the cloud base has lifted to more than
700 metres. No snow visible.

There is more coming in :~))
Glensanda is not visible
