Default Height above sea level?

I'm curious - I've always wondered what height above sea level my
property is. Short of having a suitable O/S map, is there anywhere
online where I can find my location and see the height?

There are sites online which suggest they can provide your altitude based on
settlement name, lat and long. In my experience not very accurate unless you
live in an area such as the Fens. Far better is to go to the Ordnance Survey
site
http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/ In the 'Get-a-Map' window put
the name of your location (you may then have to select from a range if you
happen to live in Newport for example). Your map will appear but you should
then press the large + sign to get the 1:25000 scale with the 5metre contour
interval. Beware that some map sites simply enlarge the 1:50000 OS map which
only has a 10metre interval. After that you just have to find where you live!

All the best
